Mug shots

ritsu and cousin
A quick question for you: Which person, below, is more interesting to you and why?

I'm hoping for the most superficial answer possible, something having only to do with how the characters look, and disregarding any observations about line or artwork quality; just image appeal only. ;)

they're not really different enough to tell. i mean, okay, one of em's got a kerchief round her head. maybe she's a cook? but she's not dressed like a cook. maybe she has a reason for her kerchief?

overall they strike me as too similar to differentiate. switch the clothes, and they'd look much the same...

hmm
I guess it's more like, which face do you like better? You're right, actually; they are supposed to be the same character but in slightly different styles. I'm wondering, is one more visually appealing (more attractive?), because of something like face, hair, or eye-shape?

Re: hmm
the one on the right looks more feminine. wide-eyed wonder and excitement and the like. (although in a second those eyebrows could go down and she could whap someone over the head with a rolling pin.) she could do determined pissy very well.

the one on the left is more masculine. i imagine her to be a tomboy. i have trouble imagining her doing the same kind of pissy face as the girl on the right, because that would be too feminine for her. rather she'd get bored or irritated or angry.

so the one on the left i imagine runs with a crowd of boys, and does traditionally boy-ish things. i imagine her being a mechanic or a dragon tamer or something, and spending a lot of time outdoors. whereas the girl on the right looks like she'd hang out with other girls, doing girly things (like cooking, or taking care of small children.) i would imagine her inside the house more.

the idea of running around taming dragons and the like sounds exciting, but she looks kind of bored, so maybe she has a boring job mowing hay or something. whereas the other girl looks startled or interested in something, which leads me to believe that there is something more interesting going on with her. so i suppose i'd be more interested in finding out what she's up to.

hope that helps.

i think the one on our right is, because the hair is covered and more mysterious???

Ah, actually her hair is...kind of shaved. It's too hard to draw bald female characters!! Yeah, I have to say, I like the expression on the right-side one more too...concentrating on something external :)

I'm intrigued by the expression on Ms. Rightside. Her wide eyes, retracted wings and arm placement make me wonder what she just heard or saw. Ms. Leftside simply looks pouty. A friend in need is a friend indeed? I don't know... Rightside is more appealing to me.

I personally like the one on the left. More attitude, and a little darker and more reserved than the one on the right. They're both cool, but I prefer the more confident expression of the left one over the wide-eyed look of the right one. The left one looks like she can take care of herself, while the right one looks like she might need help.

LOL! Somehow I knew you might prefer characters that appear contentious / rebellious / full-of-attitude. ;) I guess my question is, since it will be a bildungsroman story (about someone who is rebellious and must come to terms with herself and the objects / people toward which the rebellion is directed), which character is better suited for such a role? More superficially, which one will be more interesting / more fitting, being cast in such a role.

Well, I definitely think that the one on the left is more fitting of that kind of character. If the other one was presented as being rebellious and stuff, I might be wary of the story -- it seems like a lot of times characters who look similar to that end up "turning" and becoming weak. Like, if she was shown as having an attitude, I'd probably assume that it was just a front, or that she was faking it.

Still, though, they're both great designs, and plus I seem to be in the minority with my preference. ^_^

id go with the right. The character on the right has a different look that makes it more appealing.

in other words...cuteness wins? =D

there is a bit of doe-eyed innocence that I tend to go for superficially

ideally combining the two might be the best character

a doe-eyed and emotionally tormented tough-elf

Perhaps!

Or the fact that her hair is tied up in a cute little thingie! And not so pissy.
